This small crescent shaped island, 3km long and 700 m wide is classified on the official list of the '' sites naturels remarquables ''. Ile d'Aix has a fragile environment which has to be preserved. A genuine microcosm where all landscapes are represented. It can only be discovered on foot, by bicycle or aboard a horse and carriage. Motorized vehicles are deliberately restricted to a bare minimum. A carpark is available on the Pointe de la Fumée at Fouras.

After the crossing by ferry of about 20 minutes you can walk around the island in about 3 hours, you can rent a bicycle ( or bring your own ) or make a tour aboard a horse and carriage. For your own pleasure and safety we advise you to follow the directions and signposts.
For your security
- The island disposes of an emergency post manned by the "sapeurs pompiers" read fire brigade who are on duty all year round (tel : 18).
- There is also a medical cabinet where a doctor is on duty half a day per week, for an appointment dial 05 46 84 09 50 or 05 46 84 49 49.
- The police station is only manned during July and August, for emergency (tel : 17).
During July and August the only supervised beach is "L'Anse de la Croix". The other beaches are always non supervised and bathing is at your own risk and peril. Rocks are covered with oystershells with razor sharp edges we therefore advise you not to go fishing barefooted.Dogs must be kept on leash and are not allowed on the beach.
At your service :
The townhall is open from 9 am to midday but closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The postoffice is open from 9 am to 12.30 (not on Saturdays and Sundays) from September till June, during July and August also on Saturdays, same hours.
